Turns out if you are an interstate driver you have to carry both new one and the old one until 5/22/2014. Ask your doctor to kindly provide both. DMV and DOT has conflicting information in this regard. As it turns out DL51A (Green Medical Card) has NOT been fully replaced by the new medical certificate. Rather, it is still being enforced outside of California. In another words if you are an interstate CDL driver you still need to carry these Green Medical Certificates. This was confirmed with National Registry early January. Effective date for the new medical card fully replacing old green medical card is May 22, 2014. Until then, nothing has been changed other than carrying additional piece of paper inside your wallet.
